Independent Schools Association of Malawi (Isama) has hailed its partnership with Nation Publications Limited (NPL) for the many benefits it presents to its membership of over 2 000 nursery, primary and secondary schools.

Speaking when Isama and NPL signed the memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Wednesday in Lilongwe, the association’s president, Wycliffe Chimwendo said through the partnership, they will gain newspaper space to showcase various school activities, including quizzes and other education-related content.

He touted the partnership for its bid to offer discounts on newspaper advertising and printing.

Chimwendo said: “They also have an offset printing machine that prints exercise books and other learning materials which our membership will also benefit from through a good discount, and we will use that opportunity to ensure that we have branded materials.

“It is also important for us to be heard, and through this agreement with The Nation newspapers which has wide reach in the country, the issues that we want to voice out will be incorporated in the papers,” he said.

On her part, NPL chief executive officer Mbumba Banda said the partnership is beneficial to the growth and the future of the newspaper publisher, adding that the association will gain a platform that is far reaching, both within Malawi and outside.

She also said NPL will work with Isama in one of its projects Adopt a School while also hoping to reach more youths in private schools through the various newspaper pages and products.

Said Banda: “Already, we have products and pages that address the youths, and through Isama, we hope to reach more youth in the private schools.

“We also want to work with them in the Adopt a School project, where we provide newspapers to school libraries across the country, and the students access the newspapers during English lessons, social studies and others.

She said the partnership will also help to have teachers who are more informed.
