NPL reporter Bobby Kabango wins regional award

he stable of achievers at Nation Publications Limited (NPL) is growing by the day after reporter Bobby Kabango conquered Southern Africa to win the 2013 MISA best print feature award in children reporting.

Kabango was decorated with the award at a ceremony held on Friday in Lusaka, Zambia.

Zambian Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services Mwansa Kapeya was the guest of honour at the ceremony.

Kabango was recognised for his story titled On offer at 13 published in theNation on Sunday of March 31 2013.

The story discussed the fate of some girls in Balaka who are married off as young as 13 years old.

Speaking after receiving the award, Kabango paid tribute to NPL and his colleagues in the newsroom for the support they gave him.

“I thank God for the blessing of the award. I also want to register my gratitude to all editors who worked on the story, fellow reporters and NPL for the support they gave me to do the story,” he said.

Kabango belongs to the elite league of multiple award winners at NPL. Recently, he scooped the TNM Super League sports photojournalist of the year and MISA Malawi best Chichewa reporter accolades.

At the Lusaka awards, Chikondi Mphande of Zodiak Broadcasting Services (ZBS) of Malawi emerged the best in radio news.

The best print news award went to Sithembile Mamba from Swaziland whereas Wallace Mawire, a freelance journalist from Zimbabwe, was the best photojournalist.

Muvi TV of Zambia was named the media house of the year.
