People in Kasungu hail livestock farming
People in Traditional Authority Chulu in Kasungu District have commended World Vision Malawi for giving them goats and chickens to venture into livestock farming.
They said this on Wednesday when the organisation distributed 5 125 goats to 125 households and 610 chickens worth K400 million.
One of the beneficiaries, Mkosa Mvula, said she received five goats. She said that the livestock will bring some change to her household.
“I am excited to receive the goats as they will offer an alternative source of generating income,” she said.
Mvula said besides being a source of income, the livestock will also boost her household’s protein uptake which is good for the children’s nutrition.
Chulu Area Development Committee chairperson Jacob Kawaza commended World Vision for the livestock distribution initiative.
He said: “The livestock will also contribute manure for people’s gardens.
“We have set up clubs under village development committees to remind farmers on how to look after the livestock.”
On his part, Kasungu District World Vision programmes manager Arnold Tsalayekha said they distributed the goats and chickens to empower households economically.
“We are a child-focused organisation and supporting children’s education is our business. That is why we donated the livestock to the households. We know that people in this area have skills of domesticating such kind of livestock,” he said.
World Vision is implementing Animal Gift Catalogue Project in Mutchenda Area Programme in the district.
The project rolled out in October 2023 and will phase out in September 2026.
