TNM Super League top-scorer Silver Strikers marksman Maxwell Gastin Phodo has opened a four-goal gap between him and his closest challengers.

He is trailed by his teammate Stennie Davie and Nyasa Big Bullets’ Zicco Nkanda who have scored eight goals apiece.

Leading scorer Silver’s Phodo has netted 12 goals so far

Phodo scored a brace in Silver’s 3-2 triumph over Mafco at Silver Stadium on Saturday to take his tally to 12 goals.

Davie, who has eight goals, came in as a substitute to replace Thuso Paipi, but did not hit the target.

New-signing Frank Banda scored from a free-kick in his first match. Mafco scored through Kingsley Nkhonjera and Maurice Chiumia.

In the second-half, the Silver were leading 2-1 and Phodo made sure that the Bankers bagged maximum points after netting his second goal of the day.

However, after the game Silver assistant coach McDonald Mtetemela bemoaned Silver’s missed scoring opportunities and poor communication that led to the Bankers conceeding two goals.

“He [Phodo] could have scored more than two goals. He missed a lot of chances,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nkanda could not increase his tally after failing to score in a goalless draw against TN Stars on Sunday at Kasungu Stadium.

Big Bullets assistant coach Peter Mponda blamed the team’s failure to score on poor officiation.

Royal Bokosi (Red Lions), Chiletso Zoya (TN Stars), Hendrix Mitsinde (Ntopwa FC), Muhammad Sulumba (Civil Service United) and Clever Kayira(Ekwendeni United) are on third with six points apiece.

Silver’s Patrick Macheso, Babatunde Adebare Adepoju (Mighty Wanderers), Emmanuel Muyira(Chitipa United), Clement Nyondo (Karonga United) have five goals each on fourth position.

Nkanda and Babatunde are the only players from Blantyre-based giants Bullets and Wanderers in the top four.
