malawi-policeLimbe Police says it has increased patrols to ensure maximum security for residents during Christmas and New Year festivities.

Station officer Assistant Commissioner Kenneth Semani made the assurance in an interview on the sidelines of the security executive committee (SEC) meeting at the Police Training School in Limbe last week.

Semani said his office is working with community leaders in devising strategies to curb crime during the festive season.

He said the strategies are effective and that Limbe Police is already registering a steady decline in crime rate over the past months.

“We know there are people who want to take advantage of these festivities to steal and vandalise other people’s property. As police, we’ve come up with strategies to ensure that every citizen is protected and that no property is lost while families go on outings,” he said.

But Semani emphasised that residents and community leaders need to actively monitor and report all suspicious undertakings as a preventive measure.

SEC chairperson Mussa Lambat assured that his committee will render all the necessary support to Limbe Police to ensure security is beefed during Christmas and New Year period.

“During this period, police alone cannot fight crime. They’ll need the support of communities to discharge their duties effectively. My appeal to fellow residents is that we should help them where necessary,” said Lambat.
