During the event supported by Premier Bet, she highlighted issues such as gender-based violence (GBV), suicide, cyber security, defilement, mob justice and vandalism as crimes that continue to haunt the region.

Mikuwa emphasised the need for continued awareness campaigns following the rise in crimes.

“This initiative is part of an awareness campaign we have launched in the region. We want to inform people about the dangers of mob justice, suicide, vandalism, irresponsible gambling, and other crimes,” she said.

Premier Bet community manager Hamza Mgaye said they felt duty-bound to support the police in combating crime to  create safe communities where business and investment can thrive.

He said: “As Premier Bet, we respect communities our customers come from. We also understand that some suicide cases are linked to betting, that is why we are part of this awareness.

“The initiative provided a platform for promoting responsible betting and sharing information on where individuals can seek help regarding betting-related issues.”

Ndirande resident Charles Gomera expressed gratitude for the initiative, describing it as essential for fostering collaboration between the community and police.

He said the campaign helped residents understand how to work together to address issues such as suicide and irresponsible gambling.
