Police recover 3 vehicles during Basad operation
Female police officers from the South West Region have recovered three vehicles suspected to have been stolen from South Africa.
The cops recovered the vehicles on Wednesday during an-all female operation called Basad.
South West Region Police Basad chairperson Rebecca Ndilande said this on Wednesday in Blantyre when they commemorated the day.
She said the operation was possible because of the good working relationship between the police and the communities.
Ndilande said they also arrested suspects of various offences, including defilement.
“We started the operation from November 18 to November 20 and our main focus was to inform the public that gender-based violence is escalating, therefore, we should coordinate to protect people,” she said.
Ndilande said the Malawi Police Service teaches good principles as female officers are being treated equally with their male counterparts.
South West Region Police operations officer John Zidana said he was pleased that female officers demonstrated professionalism during the operation.
“The operation was a success. That is what we expected from the female officers as you know they undergo the same training as male officers. Therefore, they are equally capable of conducting such operations,” he said.
Female officers from Malawi Police Service, the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services and Malawi Prison Services are taking part in the operation, which takes place every year in Southern African Development Community countries
