People’s Party (PP) has reprimanded its deputy publicity secretary Ken Msonda over his remarks to avenge violent acts allegedly perpetrated by members of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in Mulanje.

Party secretary general Paul Maulidi confirmed the development today, which he said followed a disciplinary hearing on Thursday.

“His views contradict PP’s stance and beliefs. His remarks were not commissioned by party, hence the hearing,” said Maulidi.

Msonda early this month declared war on DPP after an incident in Mulanje where two houses belonging to PP district committee members, Pilan Chimpembeli and Alice Julio were torched.

He alleged in a statement that the two houses were set on fire by DPP followers.

Said Msonda:  “We would like o strongly warn the DPP leadership that if the party continues with its barbaric acts of violence, People’s Party shall have no option but to retaliate to protect our members, supports and followers.

“People’s Party has the ability, machinery, capacity and resources to hit-back and make DPP leadership, supporters and followers live miserably”.

Maulidi later distanced the party from Msonda’s remarks and asked him to apologise  and make a clarification on the same, arguing that PP does not believe in war.

Msonda refused to retract the remarks, insisting that DPP should stop persecuting PP members.
