Deputy Secretary to the President and Cabinet Janet Banda has urged Principal Secretaries (PSs) to bring back the glory of the public service by creating a result-oriented public sector which would serve as a key enabler in achieving the Malawi 2063 (MW2063).

Speaking in Dowa on Thursday during the closing of a leadership development programme, she said the training included many courses to equip the PSs with valuable skills aimed at improving their efficiency and effectiveness in the performance of public duties.

Banda: We must improve service delivery

Said Banda: “This was a demand-driven programme based on areas that Principal Secretaries felt would be beneficial for individual development and job performance.

“This is, therefore, a remarkable commitment and investment towards leadership training. The initiative will act as a catalyst in enhancing public sector performance which is one of the enablers in achieving the Malawi 2063.”

She added that the training should act as a catalyst in their efforts to drive national development through improved public service delivery.

On her part, Malawi School of Government acting campus director Jessie Kabwila said they will continue to provide demand-driven and high quality training programmes in line with the institutions mandate; hence, calling for the government to continue patronising such training programmes for high level officials deemed critical to national development.

“We had 52 participants who have undergone a six-day intensive training programme with a team of 15 expert facilitators from within and outside Malawi.

“The facilitators were carefully selected based on their qualifications and work experience in their areas of specialisation.”

The training was conducted in two phases, from July 11 to 13 and August 1 to 3 with funding from United Nations Development Programme.
