National Initiative for Civic Education (Nice) Trust has urged people in Karonga District to register when the exercise begins on October 21 2024 to vote in the September 16 2025 General Elections.
Karonga Nice civic education programmes officer Mabvuto Mkandawire said this on Saturday at Nyungwe during a football bonanza organised to disseminate information on the impending voter registration exercise.
He said: “The awareness campaign aims at wooing potential voters to do the needful as you know that Karonga District is in the first phase of the voter registration.

“So, we organised a football bonanza between Nyungwe and Ngara social teams because football is a crowd-puller.”
Group village head Mchekacheka in Traditional Authority Mwirang’ombe commended Nice Trust for the initiative.
He said: “Responsible citizens must vote and it begins with registering to vote.
“I will also take the message to my subjects because I want every eligible citizen to exercise their right to vote in next year’s polls.”
Ndongolera Ndovi, a community member, said the message was timely as other people were not aware that Karonga was in the first phase.
“This will help people who were not decided to register but also others who did not know that they can use even expired national identity cards to register,” he said.
Ndovi , there fore , encouraged his fellow community members to register in large numbers to vote for leaders of their choice in 2025.
Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has released a voter registration exercise schedule with Karonga and Chitipa districts appearing in the first phase which begins on October 21 to November 3 2024.
According to MEC, each phase will take 14 days.
