Rumphi District has tourism potential, says British envoy
British High Commissioner Fiona Ritchie says Rumphi has the potential to attract tourists which can boost the district’s economic activities.
She said this on Friday when she engaged Rumphi District Council on various issues.

Said Ritchie: “Rumphi is an incredibly beautiful part of Malawi. I think, with good infrastructure, it would be easier for tourists to come here.
“Nyika National Park is an asset to the country. It is beautiful. It offers what you cannot see in other places.”
The envoy also visited Paramount Chief Chikulama-yembe at his headquarters in Bolero.
Ritchie said she was pleased to interact with the royal family.
Paramount Chief Chikulamayembe said he was honoured to be visited by the British High Commissioner.
Rumphi district commissioner Emmanuel Bulukutu said tourism was one of the council’s strategic areas aimed at improving the district’s economic develop-ment.
He said the district’s tourism activities can contribute towards the attainment of the country’s long-term development strategy, Malawi 2063.
Bulukutu also shared the council’s plans to have an industrial park to promote value-addition to crops such as soya beans and groundnuts.
He said: “We export a lot of raw agricultural produce such as groundnuts. We need to start adding value to our farm produce. That will create job opportunities to people.
“We need to work on these opportunities to transform our economy and achieve the Malawi 2063.”
Jane Mhango, a resident, commended Ritchie for en-couraging the council to enhance tourism activities in the district
