Salima District Council is set to review its Village Local Area Plans (Vlaps) to foster smooth implementation of public works programmes, district commissioner Charles Mwawembe has said.

Speaking at the opening of an orientation for community-based extension workers on Wednesday, he said the exercise is meant to seal gaps in the implementation of different public works.

Mwawembe said, through the exercise, the district will revisit its projects in all its 50 Vlaps across the district.

He said the district is expected to take on board the reviewed version of the Vlaps in the next Local Development Fund (LDF), Masaf 4, expected to start in July this year.

“We take you as change agents and we believe you will assist the council in the implementation of public works programmes through the review of Vlaps,” said Mwawembe

District LDF officer Steven Matemba appealed for intensification of catchment management approach projects such as afforestation.

He said with such initiatives, the council can address prevailing environmental challenges such as floods.

During the exercise, the council is expected to identify new projects through participatory community approach. n
