Salima Sugar Company plans to boost output
Salima Sugar Company has unveiled plans to boost sugar output this year to flood the local and regional markets.
The company’s sales representative Mwai Chagwira said this at Nalipiri Eco Resort in Mulanje last Friday on the sidelines of Blantyre Press Club annual general meeting.
“As a company, we plan to increase production capacity by processing 1 850 metric tonnes [MT] of cane per day from an initial 1 250 metric tonnes of cane starting this year,” she said.
Consumers Association of Malawi director John Kapito applauded the company for the plans to boost sugar output, saying it is the only way of ensuring availability of the product on the market.
Salima Sugar Company was established in 2018 as government joint entity with Aum Sugar and Allied Company Limited from India owning 60 percent and the remaining 40 percent held by the Malawi Government.
