The much-anticipated Nation Publications Limited (NPL) Mother’s Fun Run hits the ground with a flair this morning in Blantyre.

According to NPL marketing manager Albert Banda, the 12.6 kilometre race is expected to cover the stretch from Mpemba Health Centre turnoff to Delamere Building, before proceeding to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH).

As it was in 2016 Mother’s Fun Run

“From 6am, it will be a marathon between Mpemba and Delamere. Then, the guest of honour British High Commissioner to Malawi Holly Tett, will join in for a short distant run to QECH with the Malawi Defence Force [MDF] Brass Band spicing it up,” he said.

“Mind you, this is a fun run and not a race. Therefore, everyone should have the freedom of having a rest whenever they get tired during the event.”

Banda said the purpose of the annual fun run, which promotes safe motherhood, is to raise funds for QECH and other 26 health facilities in the commercial city. The theme for this year is ‘together we can make a difference.’

“This event is a culmination of resource mobilisation we had to contribute towards the well being of our health facilities,” he said.

So far, a number of companies and organisations have donated various items towards the initiative.
