Skeffa: There is massive demand for the album outside Malawi

Lilongwe-based musician Skeffa Chimoto has said his Chikondi album will soon go international courtesy of a foreign music distributor.

Skeffa said this yesterday when describing how music lovers within and without Malawi have welcomed the album.

He said some foreign music dealers have approached him with a proposal to distribute the album outside Malawi.

“There is massive demand for the album outside Malawi and I have got deals from some foreign music distributors which I am currently scrutinising. I have observed that some of them are new and I would not want to deal with such people as they would want to start their business by distributing my album. I want an established music distributor,” said the Chinamuluma Chakuda star.

Skeffa said because his music has been selling well in Zambia, he has approached Super Shine, the country’s best music distributor, to distribute the album. He said he has inquired from the music dealer who told him to identify a middle man to facilitate the deal between the two parties. The coordinator will be responsible for monitoring the deal.

“I would have signed the deal by now, but I have been busy. I will be resting in January and that will be the time to concentrate on the deal and make sure the album is on the international market by February. I am currently looking for people based in Zambia to work with me on the deal and I am optimistic it will work,” he said.

Skeffa added that the choice is because the distributor also sells music in Mozambique, Botswana, South Africa and DRC.
