Sports journalist Bango eyes parliamentary seat

Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS) sports journalist Mike Bango has expressed interest to contest parliamentary seat contest in Kasungu North constituency during the forthcoming 2019 Tripartite Elections.

He has joined a number of sports personalities such as Flames assistant coach Peter Mponda and veteran Nyasa Big Bullets winger Fischer ‘Anong’a’ Kondowe, who have also declared their interest to join politics.

The popular soccer commentator and sports presenter confirmed yesterday that he would run on Malawi Congress Party (MCP) ticket after being approached by chiefs and other people in the constituency, which is in the hands of People’s Party (PP) legislator Beatrice Roseby Mwale.

“I will represent MCP once I succeed during the party’s primary elections. I have made this decision as a response to the requests that chiefs and other people in my area made. It has taken me two years to respond to their call,” he said.

When asked what he thinks prompted people in the constituency to go for his name, Bango said: “I am not sure what they saw in me. However, I believe they noted how actively involved I have been with the youth in my area through sports.”

The multi-award winning sports reporter, who joined ZBS in 2007, explained that he will decide whether to continue with his or not once the MCP primaries are over.
