Kawinga-Mia said while the general perception is that spa and beauty treatments are a luxury, yet in reality the services are crucial for one’s general health.

“Looking beautiful is therapeutic on its own. Some people feel some kind of way because of some kind of things, but when they get pampered at a spa and look beautiful, they automatically feel better and their self-esteem is boosted,” she said.

Kawinga-Mia said it is high time people realised the importance of taking care of one’s beauty and mental health as they have lasting effects on the whole health of people.

In a separate interview, one of the officials of Studio 63 Health and Beauty Spa Wellness Centre, Alex Zuma-Zuma, who is also an assistant lecturer in mental health at Kamuzu University of Health Sciences, said the centre offers various services, including wellness services.

“We are offering our services to adolescents starting with mental health assessments. If they are having difficulties at school, here we have the expertise to assess how best to help as well as general behaviour difficulties and managing emotions,” he said.

Zuma-Zuma added that they will also offer services to help with mental health among men who usually experience suicidal thoughts.

“At this centre, we have our limitations and if we assess a client who needs medication, then we have links with various institutions that can now assist with further treatment,” he said.

Guest of honour at the official Mrs Universe Africa finalist Dercia Josue said she resonates with the vision of Studio 63 which is to take a holistic approach to beauty and health.

“The most important thing is to be able to live a happy life. This studio is here to offer unique services that are not readily available, but are crucial to the full general health of a human being,” she said.

Studio 63 Health and Beauty Spa will among other services also offer weight management and mental health treatments.
