Prior to the launch of the Sunbird Search for A Star on Saturday night the 24 contestants led by Sunbird Malawi, feted and mesmerised Kondanani Children Village in Bvumbwe by giving them their own private show as they sang a song specially composed for the children.

Managing director for E-wallet Felix Njawala said this was done with an intention to instill a sharing spirit in the contestants.

“Sunbird has given us enough and we thought we could share the extra we had with the children and we also wanted these contestants to act as role models to the children” he said.

The upcoming stars gave the amused yet happy looking children a hope strengthening and encouraging them that there is no need to worry and feel hopeless.

After the performance, the contestants shared mouth sizzling Sunbird snacks and a bottle of juice for each child.

In an interview Sunbird public relations officer, Akossa Mphepo, said people have been supportive to Sunbird so this was done as a way of extending its gratitude to the people.

“Malawi has given more to Sunbird so we are just returning the favour. We have also done this because of the love and passion we have for children.”

Mphepo added that since contestants have come from different parts of Malawi the trip was also organised to refresh their minds from the long first week.

Children from Kondanani Children Village also returned the favour by showcasing their talent. The Children’s Village gave the contestants a run for their money –their only restriction to entering the talent search could be their ages. 15-year-olds, Yolita and Josophine serenaded the audience with their sweet and calm voices in self composed gospel songs.

E-wallet talent show was launched four years ago with an aim of revealing talent and is back this year as Sunbird Search for A Star.
