T/A Kapeni asks church to condemn homosexuality

Traditional Authority (T/A) Kapeni of Blantyre has asked the church to condemn homosexuality, saying it is abomination to the Malawi nation.

Kapeni made the remarks last Sunday during a farewell party for Reverend Dr Felix Chingota, former moderator of St Columba CCAP Church in Blantyre.

“The church should be in the forefront to condemn gay marriages because they are unbiblical. If the Bible describes homosexuality as abomination, why should the church be quiet?” wondered Kapeni.

Kapeni, a former church elder in the CCAP Church, quoted Leviticus 20:13, which says, “And where a man takes a woman and her mother, it is loose conduct. They should burn him and them in the fire in order that loose conduct may not continue in your midst.”

Meanwhile, general secretary for the Blantyre CCAP Synod, Reverend Alex Maulana, has said the church does not condone the act.
