The festive season is around the corner and the file for events to curtain raise the festivities begins to pile up as the journey of memorable events to mark the end of the year begins this Saturday in Blantyre with the first-ever Slam Dunk Rap ‘N’ Ragga-90s event at the Blantyre Youth Centre.

Organised by No Limit Entertainment and Red IQ entertainment, Slam Dunk Rap ‘N’ Ragga-90s event comes in celebration of adulthood from childhood through activities youths used to partake in back in the 90s.

“The youth then, who now happen to be very influential citizens, decision-makers and captains of the industry, had their own style of spending free time and rejoicing their teen moments. Mostly it was basketball and rap music. The event wants to bring back the forgotten memories and provide time to catch-up with the old friends we had. This is the reunion that will bring people from various corners at one basketball court and one microphone,” said Red IQ marketing director Robin Mitole.

He added that they have invited several rappers who used to perform back in the day and basketball players to perform at the event in a reunion of the older and new generations.

“It is everyone’s event. Basketball in the 90s was the main thing among the youth. This celebration, therefore, aims to bring back those special moments among the retired sports men and women on their feet; let’s put on our sports and dance gear and join our colleagues in this auspicious social get-together through basketball while listening to our favourite old tunes for old times’ sake,” he said.

Mitole said while watching basketball, the patrons will be treated to performances of rap music by women and children will have several play games such as jumping castle.

According to Mitole, some of the veteran artists to perform at the event include General KC, Ashukire, King Bywell C, Manyanda, Vinny Jammy, Ben Flavour, CG, Boyz Lazy, Tapps, Buggle Tanks, Mad Spark, Crazy Hooligans, OPG, Crazy Monks, Tag, YFT, Meccai B, Anko Chambiko, Hooligan 69, Black Life Crew and Makobidi & Company.
