Wakhumbachi: I am excited and nervous

Wakhumbachi Kaluwa, last year’s E-Wallet winner, now rebranded to Sunbird Search for a Star, will make a guest appearance at this year’s finals where she is scheduled to perform three songs.

Both the musician and organisers have confirmed.

“I have mixed feelings about going back on stage. I am excited and nervous but, all in all, it is a great feeling and I am looking forward to the event,” said Wakhumbachi in an interview.

This is the first time she will be performing after winning the prize in January.

Shortly after winning, she left Malawi for studies in Namibia and is back on holiday.

“I will perform three songs including the single I released on our finale, I Will Be There. I know some people might be wondering why I have been silent but school has been keeping me busy. As a result, it is slowing me down in music.

“I cannot honestly guarantee when people should expect me full time into music, but hopefully soon when I am done with school. I am also hoping to release my first album soon, especially now that I am on holiday I will try and get some work done,” said the soften-spoken artist.

Wakhumbachi explained that she is impressed with the talent in this year’s competition, adding that it is good to see that a lot of people are coming out of the box and showcasing their talent.

On his part, Sunbird Search for a Star project director Felix Njawala explained:

“Apart from singing, Wakhumbachi will motivate the finalists on their life after the show. Even though there will be one winner, the others can still take music as a career.”
