Thanks Airtel Money!

Listen to this article

It was fantasy brought to life and it felt so good to be part of the record K360 million Airtel Money Netball Sponsorship launch at Bingu International Conference Centre in the capital last Thursday evening where there were likely scenes befitting the occasion.

Ladies and gentlemen, K360 million is a big chunk and what caught my attention was Airtel Malawi managing director Saulos Chilima’s word of caution that the sponsorship is not about netball officials enriching themselves and neither is the administration fees meant for administering people’s homes.

It should not be used as mpamba [capital] for chipereganyu, geni ya mandasi [Yes, you guessed right like Amayi], or seeking attention at bridal showers and kitchen top-ups through kufupa ma alovera [K1 000 notes] kapena kukagilila weave.

Ladies are known for their elegance and style so much that even some middle-aged women also revel in putting on those funny tight sexy pants popularly known as leggings. Hopefully, netball officials will not be tempted to swindle from the sponsorship in order to buy the arousing garments that turn me on. It is also not for buying make-up and the popular scanty little piece of clothing called G-string.

Neither is this sponsorship money meant to top up on chisoso vegetables, if there are some who are tempted then the right place is Capital Hill. As stated by Chilima, the sponsorship is meant to take the game to greater heights so that we see many more of our Queens walking the streets of big cities overseas playing professional netball and earning big money.

Airtel Money deserves a pat on the back for the record sponsorship and, hopefully, NAM will use the money for the intended purposes and make sure the sponsor gets value in return for the investment. It is not often that a company comes up to sink such a fortune in sports.

There are many companies out there, but sadly, some of them make headlines for wrong reasons and the only times we get to hear or read about them is when employers are demanding better pay. Sadly, they cannot even part with K500 to sponsor bawo or subsidise costs of m’memo for employees working overtime. Thank you Airtel Money! Thank you Saulos and your team! Khusa m’manja! Glory be to God! Uloliwe.. Uloliwe wayidudula hi..Nang’esiza! [The train is pushing!]
