Three matches end in draws
FCB Nyasa Bullets yesterday failed to reclaim the TNM Super League top spot following a goalless draw against Mafco FC at Chitowe Stadium.
It was the seventh draw for the People’s Team this season.
The result means the defending champions are static on third position on the 16-team log-table with 31 points from 16 games, a point behind leaders Silver Strikers and second-placed Chitipa United who are tied on 32 points from the same number of games.
But the Central Bankers have a superior goal aggregate.
Interestingly the three mid-week fixtures yesterday ended in stalemates as Mighty Mukuru Wanderers settled for a one-all draw against Red Lions at Kamuzu Stadium to remain fourth with 28 points.
The same scoreline was recorded in Lilongwe between bottom-placed hosts Extreme FC and Civil Service United.
At Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre, the Nomads failed to take advantage of home ground when they came from behind to force a one-all draw against Red Lions.
Red Lions opened the scoresheet in the sixth minute through Moses Nankumba.
This forced the Nomads into a frantic search for parity, which they finally found in the 48th minute through defender Lawrence Chaziya.
He headed in a Stanley Sanudi free-kick which resulted from a foul on attacker Gaddie Chirwa.
Substitute Chiukepo Msowoya could have won the game for the Nomads three minutes after being drafted in in the 75th minute, but his effort went agonisingly wide.
Wanderers coach Mark Harrison said after the match: “It’s unbelievable! That’s my description of the game. With that 80 percent possession, being in their half for 85 minutes and having at least 15 scoring chances, I can’t hold my breath.
“We can’t go on like this. We gave them a stupid goal in the first five minutes and missed a lot of chances.”
So far, Lions have not beaten Wanderers in the league since their 1-0 triumph in June 2018. From that time, the Nomads have won five times and drawn twice.
Meanwhile, Extreme FC remain bottom of the table with 10 points from 16 matches while Civil are sixth on 20 points from the same number of games.
