Thugs interrupt Central Region chairperson’s leagues launch
There was drama at Civo Stadium club house in Lilongwe yesterday when unidentified men disrupted the launch of football leagues sponsored by Central Region Football Association chairperson Austin Ajawa.
The leagues to be sponsored by Ajawa’s firm Commodities and Feeding Generations to the tune of K50 million, will be established across Central Region districts.
However, over 20 unidentified masked bouncers stormed the venue and started chasing people attending the function, including members of the media, forcing everyone to run helter-skelter.
Ajawa in an interview said some football administrators were behind the incident.
He said: “I know the people behind this. I know that they hired those men. It’s sad that these people hired those thugs to interrupt a peaceful football function.
“We are just lucky that nobody got hurt. But as the Central Region Football Association of which I am the chairperson, we cannot tolerate this hooliganism. We will get to the bottom of this and expose the football administrators behind it.”
From the K50 million sponsorship, Lilongwe will get K18.5 at K5.5 million per year for three years while Kasungu District will receive K13.5 for three years.
Mchinji District League, which is already underway, got K3 million. Salima will get K3 million, Ntcheu K2.6 million and Dowa K2.7 million just like the Ntchisi District League, which kicked off last month.
Ntchisi District Football Committee chairperson Moses Kapatamoyo thanked Ajawa for the sponsorship of the league which attracted 42 teams.
