Mighty Mukuru Wanderers yesterday dislodged their age-old rivals FCB Nyasa Bullets from the top of the TNM Super League table as the see-saw xontinues with a 1-2 victory over Blue Eagles at Nankhaka ground in Lilongwe.

The Nomads now have 43 points from 22 matches, three above Bullets, who have played three games less.

The Lali Lubani Road outfit has now completed a double over the cops, having won the first-round match 1-0 at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

But yesterday, the Nomads had to come from a goal down to bag the three points after Tonic Viyuyi gave the Malawi Police Service side a first half lead with a header from a Richard Rapson cross in the 42nd minute.

At half time, Wanderers coach Mark Harrison made two changes, throwing in Vincent Nyangulu and Balikinho Mwakanyongo for Ahamadu Kang’unde and Christopher Kumwembe respectively.

The changes paid off for the visitors who glided through the gears and started dominating.

Chipuwa (R) and Kaliyati celebrate Nomads’ victory

The Nomads equalised in the 45th minute through Isaac ‘Tcheya’ Kaliyati’s well struck free-kick from about 35 metres.

Five minutes later, Nyangulu claimed the winner for Wanderers when he connected home a Stanley Sanudi free-kick.

Eagles had a golden chance to equalise in the second minute of added time when they were awarded a penalty following a handball by one of the Nomads players.

Up stepped Christopher Gototo whose first attempt was beautifully kept out by Nomads’ goalkeeper Richard Chipuwa who laterpunched away the rebound to the disbelief of the home fans.

Wanderers winger Gaddie Chirwa, a former Blue Eagles player, was named man-of-the-match.

Eagles coach Elia Kananji, whose side lies eighth with 30 points from 24 matches, attributed the defeat to loss of concentration.

“We conceded goals that could have been easily avoided. We had a chance to equalise, but the penalty kick was poorly executed,” he said.

Harrison, on the other hand, said they did not expect an easy game.

He said: “They are in form team, they had won four of their five matches before this one and they drew the other and to come here and get three points is a massive.

A minute of silence was observed before kick-off in honour of the Nomads’ former patron  John Tembo, who died earlier in the morning at Lilongwe Private Clinic after an illness.

In other matches, Mafco FC beat Mighty Waka Waka Tigers 2-1 while Karonga United came from two goals down to force a two-all draw against Dedza Dynamos Salima Sugar.
