Toyota Malawi and CFAO Malawi last week donated K14.7 million to Beit Cure Hospital to help children with treatable deformities in Chitipa District.

Speaking during cheque presentation, Toyota Malawi managing director Kennedy Kabaghe said the support will help the hospital to sustain paediatric surgeries for children in hard-to-reach areas.

Kabaghe (2L) presents a cheque to Chemey (2R) and Ching’ani (R)

He said: “Most kids who passed this hospital with different disabilities have been treated and now they are living a normal life.

“We will continue working with the hospital because they spend a lot of money on one operation for kids between zero and 18 years as they get free treatment.”

Kabaghe said the hospital cannot sustain its operation by offering free services without sourcing resources from well-wishers.

Beit Cure Hospital executive director Elly Chemey said it had to reach children with disabilities in far-to-reach areas due to social-economic challenges.

He said: “Through this support, we will be able to map the Chitipa District, screen the children and mobilisation and awareness.

“Not all children with disabilities will be treated, but we will be able to get those with deforms that can be treated and bring them to this hospital for surgical operations.”

Chitipa Council district director of health and social services Dr Wilson Ching’ani asked corporates to invest in the health sector.

“This support will help us to screen over 1 000 children in the district,” he said.
