Tumaini Festival reveals line up

The Tumaini Arts Festival has revealed the line-up of musicians, poets and other acts for this year’s event.

Scheduled to take place from tomorrow to Sunday, the event hosted at Dzaleka Camp Refugees as per tradition, has over 35 acts.

In an interview, Tumaini Arts Festival founder and director Menes Le Plume said everything is in order and the acts are ready to dish out their best during the four-day festival.

“We are very ready for the event. We have everything in place and all we are doing right now is wait for Thursday so that the fun can begin,” he said.

Menes said over 500 volunteers are also on standby to make sure that the event is a success.

“Tumaini is not a commercial festival and it targets all cultures so as to promote coexistence and harmony. Our lineup is a blend of urban, jazz, traditional and gospel music,” he said.

Local acts include Faith Mussa, Wikise, Shammah Vocals, Lazarus, Blaze, Lusubiro Band, Eli Njuchi, Find Codi and Eric Paliani.

From outside Malawi there is Tudulos from Mozambique, Tamba Africa from Zimbabwe, Jereme Tshibi from DRC, Abantu Band and S Villa from South Africa and DJ Mayonnaise from United Kingdom, among others.

In a separate interview, Shammah Vocals said he is looking forward to the event.

He said: “I am so excited to perform for the first time at Tumaini Festival. I have followed the event for some time and it is a very good platform. I am geared to give out the A game this weekend with my band and impress the audience.”

Another artist Ritaa, who will also be making her debut appearance at Tumaini, said she can’t wait to perform at the event.

“I am looking forward to it. I am excited. They should expect a great performance and I am looking forward to having fun together with the patrons,” she said.

On his part, Faith Mussa said he is happy that this year he is going to perform  at Tumaini.
