Two Blantyre derbies within one week
Football lovers should brace for two Blantyre derbies within seven days as rivals FCB Nyasa Bullets and Mighty Wanderers will face off in the TNM Super League and the FDH Bank Cup semi-finals.
The league clash will be the first this Sunday before the FDH Bank Cup last-four encounter between November 1 and 2, Football Association of Malawi (FAM) competitions and communications director Gomezgani Zakazaka confirmed the dates yesterday.
In an interview, Bullets assistant coach Gilbert Chirwa yesterday said they are aware of the challenges of playing two Blantyre derbies within a week.

“We are ready for the derbies and we will take one game at a time starting with the league match this Sunday,” said Chirwa.
On his part, Wanderers coach Bob Mpinganjira said they will leave no stone unturned to ensure that they win both derbies and make the Nomads’ family proud.
“Derbies are no ordinary matches as they demand a lot of preparation and hard-work. We will do our best to win both matches,” he said.
Both teams are fresh from registering victories in the FDH Bank Cup quarter-finals last weekend.
Bullets won 2-1 over Kamuzu Barracks while Wanderers beat Creck Sporting Club 3-2 on post-match penalties after regulation time ended goalless.
Meanwhile, Bullets commercial manager Kevin Moyo said during a press briefing yesterday that as hosts of this Saturday’s derby at Kamuzu Stadium, they have already put advance tickets on the market, which are cheaper than on the match day.
“For example, an advance ticket for open stands costs K6 000, but will fetch K10 000 on match day. We have produced 11 600 physical tickets. Football lovers can also buy the tickets electronically through TNM Mpamba and FCB Maule Card,” he said.
Moyo added that they have enhanced security at the stadium to ensure football lovers enjoy the action without hustles.
