Local women football stars continue to attract interest from international clubs following news that Ntopwa Super Queens’ winger Mwayi Kasiya and Kings’ Ladies FC striker Loveness Nyakamera are on trials with South African teams.

Kasiya started her trials at St Mary’s FC in Mpumalanga on Saturday where she helped the team beat Galaxy Ladies 2-1 while Nyakamera is expected to play when Kwazulu Natal’s women football champions Kanatala Ladies will be in action in Polokwane today [Tuesday].

The news comes few months after national team captain Chisomo Kadzisonga, who played for DD Sunshine, joined Zimbabwean Super League side Conduit Soccer Academy.

According to the facilitator of the trials, Kingsley Jere, the two players will be in South Africa for three weeks.

“When I went to South Africa for studies recently, I met some women football officials who requested for good players from Malawi and I recommended the two. I am hopeful that by the end of three weeks, Kasiya and Nyakamera will be professional players,” Jere said.

He added that Dreams United striker Eliza Chiphang’ombe will also be on her way to Zimbabwe on August 17 for trials at that country’s Super League side Auckland Queens.

However, while expressing delight at the news as something that would put Malawi women football on the international map, Ntopwa Super Queens owner Isaac Jomo Osman complained that the agent did not approach his team for the release of Kasiya.

“This is good news. But it is not on to take our players for trials across the borders without seeking our permission. Any way, we wish the players well,” said Osmanon Monday.
