World Vision Malawi has donated furniture worth K99 million to Kamilamphande Primary School in Senior Chief Mwenewenya in Chitipa District.

Speaking on Tuesday during the handover, World Vision Chitipa district programmes manager Hendrix Kalanje said they gave out 196 chairs, 146 desks and 28 tables to promote a conducive learning environment at the school.

He said: “World Vision seeks to promote children’s literacy. Therefore, the furniture will motivate children to work hard in class.

Kalanje and Senior Chief Mwenewenya appreciate the desks

“We will continue to work together with the Malawi Government to ensure children get quality education. I ask the school and the community to take care of the furniture.”

The school’s head girl Dyna Munthali thanked World Vision Malawi for providing assorted furniture to the school.

She said it was difficult to concentrate in class while seated on the floor.

“Now with the furniture, girls will feel comfortable to participate during lessons,” said Munthali.

On his part, the school’s head teacher Patrick Munyimbiri said there was high absenteeism because learners were not comfortable sitting on the floor.

“It is my hope that the desks will motivate learners to attend classes in large numbers, especially girls who were facing challenges when sitting on the floor,” he said.

Munyimbiri assured World Vision Malawi that the school will take care of the furniture.

Senior Chief Mwenewenya commended World Vision Malawi for the furniture, saying it will promote quality education.

“I, therefore, urge the school management committee to take a lead in caring for the furniture in conjunction with learners and other relevant stakeholders,” he said.

The organisation is implementing water, sanitation and hygiene and child sponsorship in the district with support from World Vision UK
