YAS wants probe into K128bn Nocma deal
Youth and Society (YAS) has asked the Office of the Ombudsman to investigate the awarding of a K128 billion fuel supply contract to QLV DigitalFx (Malawi) Limited by the National Oil Company of Malawi (Nocma).
In a complaint letter dated September 6 2024 to Ombudsman Grace Malera, YAS said the contract is for the supply of fuel to Nocma, but procurement laws and procedures were allegedly bended.
YAS executive director Charles Kajoloweka called for an investigation into the legality of the contract, expressing concerns with transparency, accountability, the rule of law and the prudent use of public resources.
In a telephone interview on Friday, Malera confirmed receiving the letter and assured that all necessary processes would be followed.
She said: “The complaint will go through our screening processes to establish its admissibility and to determine whether it involves issues of maladministration. Once that is established, an investigation will be launched.”
The complaint pertains to the awarding of a contract to the Lilongwe-based forex bureau to procure 250 000 metric tonnes (MT) of fuel of which 125 000MT is diesel and 125 000MT is gasoline.
