Wanderers celebrate their quarter-final win

Business magnate and Mighty Wanderers FC honorary trustee Aslam Gaffar has pledged K50 000 (US$135)for each goal the Nomads may score in tomorrow’s potentially explosive Standard Bank Knockout Trophy final against Silver Strikers at Civo Stadium.

Gaffar, who is known by his transport firm name, Zagaf, said he has made the pledge to inspire the players to retain the trophy.
“I would like history to repeat itself. In fact, if they win, Zagaf will reward them in some small way as well,” said Gaffar.
Reacting to the development, Silver general secretary Mike Tembo said the pledge will pile pressure on the Nomads instead of motivating them.
“That [pledge] is what will harm them because they will play under pressure. As for our players, they know that when they win silverware, they are assured of an audience with the patron [Reserve Bank Governor] who gives them a little something,” said Tembo.
The two camps have since stepped up the hype in the countdown.
“Silver may be a good team, but they will now meet their match, amayenda m’mbali,” said Nomads general secretary David Kanyenda.
The Bankers chairperson McDonald Mafuta-Mwale said Nomads should forget about winning the trophy this time around.
He, however, said there are no special preparations for the game.
“We have just asked our friends Civo to allow us to train at the stadium for one or two days.
“The fact that they beat us 2-0 at our backyard in last year’s final is what is giving us the anger and zeal to avenge and we are ready for them,” declared Mafuta Mwale.
The champions will get K8 million (US$21 621) while the losers will receive K4 million (US$10 810).
