If I were Blantyre Water Board (BWB) acting chief executive officer, I would feel ashamed about the false promises relating to the resumption of water supply in the commercial city.

If I were the BWB CEO, I would realise that it was irresponsible and thoughtless for the board to give its long-suffering consumers false hopes that it would resume normal supply on January 20 when behind the scenes, the maintenance work was still in progress.

I would appreciate, if I were the BWB boss, that even when Escom completes its rehabilitation works at Nkula A and B power stations, it is very unlikely that normal water supply will resume because even when there is no problem at all, technical or otherwise, it would be very unusual and perhaps a taboo to expect normal water supply from BWB.

Yes, while the current situation might be beyond the BWB team, I would make sure that caution is exercised in the way it disseminates information to avoid annoying consumers even further.

If I were bwana Bakuwa, I would appreciate the harsh reality that BWB’s service delivery keeps on worsening instead of the other way round and this should give me, and indeed the rest of management, plenty of food for thought on the performance of the board.

And oh yes, I would realise that for an institution that deals in the provision of the most precious commodity, it’s about time BWB woke up from its deep slumber.
