If I were

IF I WERE Peter Mutharika

President of the Republic of Malawi, I would realise that while my call for political co-existence between incumbent president and former heads of State for Malawi to move forward is a welcome development, I seem not to put into practice what I say.

If I were my man Peter, I would recall that while I have repeatedly contradicted myself on making peace with my predecessor Joyce Banda by publicly implicating her administration of allegedly attempting to assassinate me.

If I were APM, I would appreciate that it is very inconsistent for me to say one thing today and do exactly the opposite the next day and in the end people cannot take me seriously.

How I wish I were the big shot that is Peter because having noted how my Mozambican counterpart Filipe Nyusi interacts with that country’s former heads of State, I would borrow a leaf from him and offer genuine olive branch to Amayi and possibly invite her for a chat over a drink the same way I do with Bakili Muluzi.

Oh yes, I would appreciate that being the incumbent President, I would take it upon myself to set the ball rolling by reconciling with my predecessor other than paint a ‘good guy’ picture at a press briefing by calling for political coexistence when I do not mean what I say.

That is if only I were APM, unfortunately I can never be that gentleman. DPP Woyeeee!!!!
