Malawi girls’ volleyball team in third straight win

The Malawi Under-19 National Girls’ Volleyball Team has registered it’s third successive victory at the ongoing African Union Sports Council Region 5 Youth Games in Windhoek, Namibia following a 3-2 win over Lesotho in indoor volleyball at Showground Sports Plaza.

They showed characteristic grit to come from two sets down before turning the tables around.

On Monday they beat Namibia 2-3 while on Sunday, they beat Zimbabwe by a similar margin.

The victory has seen them qualifying for the quarter-finals.

Coach Simbani Banda praised his players for their fighting spirit.

He said: “It was a very tough much and the girls displayed strong resilience to turn it all around.”

They top their pool with six points.

In basketball, the girls ‘ Under-16 team’s winning streak was brought to a halt by South Africa who beat them 63-50.

Malawi beat Zambia 71-30 on Monday and Botswana 63-50 on Saturday.

They lost their first match 95-58 to Angolal.

Meanwhile, the Malawi Under-19 National Netball Team suffered it’s first defeat yesterday, going down 48-29 to South Africa.

Malawi beat Zambia 48-46 on Monday saw off E-swatini 73-21 in their opening match on Sunday.
