Lawi sets tone for his 4th album
Afro-jazz musician Lawi has set the tone for his upcoming fourth album with the release of the album’s first single, Zoona.
Although the artist has been silent of late, it appears he has lost none of his magic if his new single is anything to go by. Zoona epitomises the artist’s masterly in song production, arrangement and vocals.
The song wears Lawi’s trademark rhythm guitar and the melodies give way to a tune which is both danceable and one that can also be enjoyed while just listening and reflecting on the narrative in it.

The message is not as directly delivered. It may take one to listen to the song a couple of times to make out what the storyline is about. Maybe it is that encryption which makes the composition even exciting.
Speaking in an interview yesterday, Lawi said the song is a take on what happens among
where there are issues of mistrust.
“It is a common experience where among couples there are nuances of mistrust which emerge from unfaithfulness or lack of accountability and transparency,” he said.
The Lilongwe-based artist said his forthcoming album My Father’s Land, has been completed and it will drop on September 27. Lawi said he has worked with artists from Benin, South Africa, Kenya, France and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
He said: “The album is a common place of resonance for you and me as this is our own father’s land. Where we come from, our dignity is preserved and vision is birthed.”
Reflecting on his music journey, Lawi said: “It has always been a learning curve with lots of discoveries every day. We never stop to grow and the same with learning. This process feeds into what we share through music,”
Commenting on the new song, one of Lawi’s fan’s Ben Savage, said: “That is what I call music. Nothing else comes near it. This is deeply touching. Food for the soul.”
