German Bundesliga side confirms Mwisho deal
Germany Bundesliga side Hannover 96 has confirmed the signing of Malawian teenage sensation Mwisho Mhango until June, 2030.
The club has been linked with the Ascent Academy supremely gifted attacker for months, but they had to wait until he reached 18.

The German side confirmed the signing of the 2025 Cosafa Under-20 Championship Player of the Tournament and top scorer through its website, saying: “Hannover 96 has signed Mwisho Mhango, a promising young player from Malawi.
“The 18-year-old attacker comes to the Maschsee from his home country, where he trained at the Ascent Soccer Academy. He signs a contract running until June 30, 2030.
“Mwisho is a high- potential player who is at home in attacking midfield and brings very exciting qualities to the position.”
The club says Mhango underwent a trial with the 96 Academy for a few weeks in the spring, “after which we said we would like to work with him”.
It further says with his 18th birthday, the transfer has now become a reality.
Mhango, who turned 18 last week, will be living at the boarding school at the 96 Academy
According to Hannover 96, the Malawi Under-20 star will begin a three-month integration phase to adjust to his new surroundings.
The statement says: “During this time, he will live in the boarding school at the 96 Academy and primarily participate in training sessions with the professional team.
“Starting in January 2026, he could also play for 96’s first team in competitive
matches.”
As a non-EU player, he is not eligible to play for the Under-23 team in the Regionalliga Nord. Therefore, a loan is also a possibility.
“Mwisho is still a very young player,” said the club’s official Marcus Mann. “We’ll let him settle in Hannover calmly and then see what’s best for him and his development in the winter. For now, we’re just happy he’s with us.”
On his part, Mwisho said: “I’ve always dreamed of coming to Europe to play football.
“I know I’m making my family and the people who have accompanied me on my journey so far very proud. I’ve been in contact with several clubs, but with 96, I had by far the best feeling. I’m very grateful and happy to be here.”
