Agra, UN praise Malawi’s youth-focused agricultural initiatives
Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa (Agra) has commended the Malawi Government for its commitment to empowering youths in the agricultural sector.
Speaking at the National Youth Summit on Wednesday at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe, Agra vice-president of programme delivery Professor Hamadi Boga hailed Malawi’s approach and urged other African nations to follow suit.

“Malawi has shown strong will in prioritising youth empowerment and institutional strengthening in agriculture. We urge other African nations to emulate this approach, particularly in investing in young people and driving innovation in agriculture,” he said.
Boga also highlighted Malawi’s dedication to transformative agriculture, noting that the country has been receptive and collaborative since Agra began working here in 2007.
“This commitment to progress is truly commendable,” he added.
He congratulated President Lazarus Chakwera on launching the K2 billion Youth Innovation Fund, describing it as “a bold step towards inclusive and sustainable development”.
The United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator Rebecca Adda Dontoh said the youth innovation fund aims at empowering youths and driving innovation across Malawi.
“Let us work together to build a peaceful and prosperous Malawi,” she said, “inspiring the youth to take an active role in shaping the country’s future.”
Dontoh also called on Malawi’s youth “to stand for peace and reject violence,” emphasising the importance of peaceful coexistence, especially during the upcoming general election.
“As we approach the elections, different stakeholders should realise that violence has the potential to undermine the country’s efforts in peace-building and development. I urge the youth to be agents of change and stand for peace,” she said.
