Alide, FAM tight-lipped on resignation
Football Association of Malawi (FAM) executive member Jabbar Alide yesterday declined to comment on reports that he has resigned as the association’s technical subcommittee vice-chairperson.
When The Nation sought his comment on the issue yesterday, Alide said: “Being an issue involving FAM, I think the GS [general secretary] is better-placed to comment on those reports. The moment I comment, I maybe overstepping my limits.”
Ironically, FAM GS Alfred Gunda threw the ball back into Alide’s court, saying: “I think he [Alide] is better-placed to comment. I shouldn’t comment on this one. Otherwise, we will hear everything at the executive committee meeting this Saturday.”
But last week Alide was quoted by The Daily Times as having said he was reconsidering his membership in the committee.
“I am considering my options on whether to continue as a member of the committee,” he said.
His statement came in the wake of the controversy surrounding Flames coach Ronny van Geneugden’s decision to appoint members of his backroom staff and junior national teams’ technical panels without the technical subcommittee’s consent.
