Big boost

FDH Bank plc has hiked the FDH Premier Netball League sponsorship package from K250 million to K350 million, translating to a 40 percent increase.

The sponsorship increase comes ahead of the 12-team national league’s second edition expected to throw off on July 4 in Lilongwe where more details will be unveiled.

The bank’s marketing manager Tiyese Kaimila announced the increase in an interview yesterday, saying they are committed to use the league as a platform to transform the sport.

“We are excited about the upcoming second season; hence, the hike,” he said.

Kaimila said the league, supported through K1.2 billion four-year sponsorship, demonstrated strong impact in its inaugural season, delivering over 200 matches and creating a structured pathway for talent development from grassroots to national team level.

“We are happy to be part of netball transformation through this league. We expect it to continue serve as a platform for talent  development,” he said.

He said the development reflects growing confidence in the structure and competitiveness of the league.

“We are looking forward to a more competitive and better structured league that revives the fast, skillful style of netball that Malawi is well known for,” he said.

NAM vice-president Tadala Billie hailed FDH Bank plc for increasing the sponsorship, saying the league remains central to rebuilding the quality and excitement of Malawian netball.

“We thank FDH Bank for this gesture,” she said.

Billie said the second season builds on a successful inaugural campaign launched in August 2025 and completed in March this year.

Blue Eagles Sisters beat Tigresses 58-33 in their last fixture to be crowned champions of the 12-team league with maximum 44-points from 22-straight wins, seven points ahead of fellow Lilongwe-based runners-up CivoNets.

The Malawi Police Service side received K13 million and a trophy.

CivoNets got K10 million while Blantyre -based Kukoma Diamonds, who finished third, received K8 million for finishing third with 36 points.

FDH Bank’s sports investment extends beyond elite competition to grassroots development structures, including supporting the Mayor’s Trophy and Malawi Schools Sports Association primary and secondary school sports programmes, which feed into elite netball pathways.
