Bullets investigating players for indiscipline
Big Bullets FC are investigating three players, captain Fischer Kondowe, his deputy Douglas Chirambo and Chimango Kayira for drunkedness on the eve of their TNM Super League match against Red Lions.
Bullets lost the game 2-0 last week and assistant coach Gerald Phiri Snr said the state of the players might have contributed to the team’s poor performance.
Phiri said they have gathered information that the trio was seen drinking beer aboard a Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) bus that ferried them to Blantyre from Lilongwe last Sunday after the international friendly match between the Flames and Mozambique’s Mambas.
“Even netball authorities also corroborated that story saying these players were drinking beer on the bus all the way to Blantyre.
“It is a very sad development because these are senior players that are supposed to lead by example,” said Phiri.
He said the issue has since been referred to the club’s management for appropriate measures.
“We do not want to judge the players, but we expect the executive committee to investigate the matter and if necessary take disciplinary action,” he said.
Bullets general secretary Higger Mkandawire confirmed having been informed about the issue.
“We haven’t made much progress on the issue because the players in question are currently in Zambia with the national team for the Cosafa Cup,” said Mkandawire.
We were unable to get the players’ comments because they were in Zambia on national duty.
