Contracts of three Nyasa Big Bullets defenders John Lanjesi, Pilirani Zonda and George Nyirenda  are expiring in five months.

The club’s general secretary Albert Chigoga confirmed that negotiations are underway to extend their contracts.

Lanjesi, who also captains Bullets, joined from Civo United last year, Zonda signed from Epac about four years ago while Nyirenda rejoined the People’s Team in 2015 after a spell with Zimbabwe outfit Caps United.

Yet to renew contract: Lanjesi

“It is true that the contracts for the three are expiring early next year. We are still interested in their services because they are good players. This is the reason we have opened negotiations to extend their contract,” said Chigoga.

He admitted that the negotiations have been protracted partly because the players want changes in the terms and conditions of the new contracts. But we are optimistic that they will sign,” said Chigoga.

The general secretary said the club recently suspended the negotiations to concentrate on the upcoming Carlsberg Cup final against Be Forward Wanderers at Bingu National Stadium on Saturday in Lilongwe.

“As soon as that game is played we will resume the negotiations,” he said.

Bullets last year lost striker Jaffalie Chande who joined their bitter rivals Wanderers as a free agent, following disagreements over conditions of the renewed contract he was offered.

In a related development, Big Bullets has terminated the contract for midfielder on loan player Dave Ng’ambi.

A letter from the club to the player reads: “Nyasa Big Bullets management has noted that since you were loaned to Blue Eagles some months ago,  you have not consistently been featured. Management, therefore, reviewed your contract before reaching a decision of releasing you from the club effective September 1.” n
