Catholic Church urged to use the media

Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) national communications secretary Father Andrew Kaufa has urged the Catholic Church in Malawi to utilise the media so that people know what the church is doing in the pastoral, social and development areas in the country.

As part of his familiarisation tour of the Zomba Diocese, Kaufa recently held a meeting with diocesan officials.

“There are numerous projects that the Catholic Church is doing here in Zomba and other dioceses but most of them are invisible because there isn’t enough effort to publicise them and yet they are newsworthy.

“Therefore, we need to be aggressive enough in our efforts to let the nation know about what we are doing in our dioceses,” said Kaufa.

Director of development in the diocese Reverend Father Peter Mulomole said the Catholic Church has notable media institutions locally that can be used to reach many people.

He asked Catholic media outlets to be professional and market themselves to church institutions so that they should also be approached for news coverage.

“This is the right time to show that we are existing by informing the general public what we are doing,” said Mulomole.
