Flames striker Chiukepo Msowoya’s move to Mozambican national champions Maxaquene is delaying because he owes his former team Escom United.
According to Football Association of Malawi (FAM) commercial manager Casper Jangale, they have information that Chiukepo took out a loan at Escom and the club wants him to repay before he can be cleared.
But Escom chairperson Fanuel Nkhono said the deal is on hold because the Mozambican club did not follow procedures in getting Msowoya to Mozambique.
“Whether the player owes us or not is an internal matter, but the fact is that he has a contract with us which is valid and as such, Maxaquene were supposed to talk to us.
“But they spoke to the player directly and went as far as negotiating a deal and took him to Maputo without our knowledge. So what we want is that the team should communicate to us and that we strike a deal with them, then we will authorise the issuing of an ICT.
“Chiukepo knows that as Escom, we have never had an intention of blocking players’ moves, but we believe in professionalism in handling international deals,” said Nkhono.
Jangale told MBC Radio One on Tuesday that they will clear the player once Escom give them the go-ahead.
Msowoya signed for Maxaquene last month for a year-long deal.
The player claimed he was a free agent; hence, no need to involve Escom in the deal while Escom say they own him and have documentation to prove their case.
