Clubs urge Sulom to stick to fixture
TNM Super League clubs have urged Super League of Malawi (Sulom) to stick to the second round fixtures it has released.
The flagship league runners on Sunday released a tentative entire fixture for the second round which kicks off this Saturday and is scheduled to end on November 5.
Some of the clubs that we spoke to yesterday said while they have no qualms with the fixture, they expect Sulom to religiously adhere to the fixture.
Silver Strikers chief executive officer Thoko Chimbali said: “We are satisfied with the fixture as they have considered the issues we raised after the draft fixture was released.
“Our only plea is for them to stick to it.”
On his part, Civil Service United general secretary Ronald Chiwaula said: “This is the way to go and we are happy. Hopefully, everything being equal, they will adhere to the fixture as frequent changes affect clubs in terms of planning.”
Nyasa Big Bullets chief administration officer Albert Chigoga also said they are good to go.
“We are okay with it and we expect that it will be adhered to,” he said.
Blue Eagles chairperson Alexander Ngwala said: “Tentative fixture is always agreeable, changes come along the way.
“[However], Change of dates on fixtures due to events along the way provides opportunities to tamper with fixtures.”
According to the fixture, the most sought-after fixture, the Blantyre derby between Bullets and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers is scheduled for August 7 at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre while the Lilongwe derby between Civo and Silver is slated for a day earlier at a venue yet to be determined.
Silver will host Bullets on August 27 while the tie between the Nomads and Silver is slated for September 17 at Kamuzu Stadium.
A statement released by Sulom states that games will be fixed on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and mid-week, depending on availability of match venues, other competitions’ schedule and international matches.
