Defining moment for Bullets’ campaign

Nyasa Big Bullets’ TNM Super League campaign faces a defining moment as the People’s Team invade the Capital City, Lilongwe, to face high-flying Civil Sporting Club this afternoon at Civo Stadium and holders Kamuzu Barracks Sunday at the same venue.

Bullets assistant coach Elia Kananji said they need to bag maximum points to stay in contention for the title.

“These two matches will either make or break our title campaign. Our target is to get maximum points,” he said.

Six points will catapult Bullets to 41 points and if Silver Strikers stumble at Chitowe in Dwangwa against the hosts tomorrow, Bullets will take over the second position.

But this afternoon, Bullets face a transformed Civil, not the one they beat 3-0 in first-round.

Civil have lost once in 11 matches to Silver Strikers, which was also their only loss since May.

Midfielders Righteous Banda, Joseph Dudu Kachule and Fletcher Bandawe are behind Civil’s resurrection.

Their combination has left teams vulnerable as they tear defences of opponents apart.

Civil team manager Gabriel Chirwa said the civil servants are out to revenge their losses to Bullets in Super League and Carlsberg Cup.

But this afternoon, Civil have to be their at their best as they face Bullets’ solid defence marshaled by their former players captain John Lanjesi and left-back Emmanuel Zoya.

Kangunje, another former player, who punished Civil in Carlsberg Cup, is also expected to start alongside other goal-hungry attackers Mussa Manyenje, Chiukepo Msowoya and Muhammad Sulumba.

After this afternoon’s mission, Bullets’ attention will shift to struggling Kamuzu Barracks.

The fixture comes at a time KB coach Billy Phambala has confessed that he can longer take the pressure and urgently needs a victory.

The defending champions are stuck on position 10 with 22 points after losing to Mzuzu University (Mzuni) last weekend.
