Deputy Speaker

Of Parliament, the last thing I would ever do is to trick the honourable house into paying me rental allowances which are way above my entitlement.

If I were the Deputy Speaker, I would appreciate that such conduct does not befit an honourable member of the house, let alone the Deputy Speaker.

Oh yes, if only I were Deputy Speaker of Parliament, I would realise that when I insist that I am renting the house when official documents state otherwise, it raises questions about my integrity unless if I come up with convincing proof.

Elsewhere, under such circumstances, I would resign to pave way for thorough investigations into the matter, but this is my mother Malawi, not so? And life goes on.

If I were the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, I would realise that I have lost my credibility and no amount of explanation will vindicate me on this one, except of course, apologising to the nation.

That is if only I were the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, unfortunately it is a mere wish for I remain a poor scribe that is Garry Chirwa. n
