Dulux Paints Malawi, on Wednesday donated 200 litres of paint worth K320 000, to Providence Girls Secondary School for part of its infrastructure renovation.

Presenting the donation at Dulux head office in Blantyre, the company’s managing director Mathews Chikankheni said they are keen on supporting the community.

“The cause is noble. Providence is a school with a long history and its renovation is important. This is why we have supported the initiative. We are aware that the donation is small compared to the school’s renovation requirements, but I hope other organisations will support the cause,” said Chikankheni.

Receiving the donation, Providence Girls Secondary School Alumni chair for Southern Region Lucy Vokhiwa said the school seriously needs renovations.

“We were shocked when we saw the state of the school infrastructure. The ceiling was falling off, and students were sitting on the floor in the dining room. We are planning to raise funds for fixing and purchase of furniture, acquisition of sports equipment and construction of a new hostel. We have so far raised about K3 million but we need more,” said Vokhiwa.

Providence Girls Secondary School, this year celebrated its 80th anniversary. The school’s alumni are raising funds for the renovation of the school.
