Ministry of Health, with support from the German Government, has launched a digital health initiative project known as e-Register at Ntcheu District Hospital.

Speaking during the launch on Thursday, Deputy Minister of Health Enock Phale said the e-Register system allows health workers to quickly capture patient data and ensure all examinations are conducted accordingly.

He said among others, the system will help in reduce challenges community members face when seeking health services at the facility.

“The newly launched system will reduce the time for patients to be attended to,” said Phale.

Malawi German Health Programme (MGHP/GIZ) team leader Dr Paul Dielemans said the system is technologically advanced and will simplify delivery of services at the facility.

He said GIZ and the  German government appreciate the cordial relationship with the Malawi Government and assured the community of continued support on various projects.

Senior Chief Makwangwala said he was excited with the innovation, saying time for paper-based registration is over, especially now when communities were facing disasters which are causing loss of properties, including health passports.

“During disasters such as floods, people have no time to look for health passports, but rush for shelter or medical assistance,” he said.

The chief called on the communities to desist from encroaching the health facility’s land.

Phale also officially opened the under-five clinic at the facility.

The project is being implemented at a pilot stage at Bilira Health Centre and will be rolled out to Nsiyaludzu and Kandeu health facilities in the district.

E- Register project is being implemented through a consortium of Management 4 Health (m4h), Compelling Works and CooperSmith.
