Lilongwe prominent businessperson Zubair Sharikmaslat has rescued the Weightlifting Association of Malawi (WAM) by funding the 2013 Mr. Malawi Bodybuilding Contest scheduled for October 20 at Crossroads Hotels in Lilongwe.

“I am a bodybuilder myself. This is the sport I love and that is why I am interested in it,” said Sharikmaslat.

He said he is also sponsoring the contest as part of his company’s corporate social responsibility.

WAM president Richard Kuwali expressed appreciation for the sponsorship.

“We are really indebted to Mr. Sharikmaslat for this assistance. My appeal is to the bodybuilders to put up their best performance so that we can continue to court the corporate world to assist,” said Kuwali.

Meanwhile, 50-year-old former Mr. Malawi Isaac Mwangonde has joined the race for this year’s title.

Mwangonde, who was Mr. Malawi between 1987 and 1990, has been in camp for three weeks now.

He joins big names such as King Jussab from Parachute Battalion and Ichocho Yasin Suwedi, who are front runners to challenge Henry Master.
